Overheard at the MoMA
Sunday, July 27th, 2008Went to the Frida Kahlo exhibit at the SF MoMA last week. Sometimes the best part of museums is watching other people watch the art, and explain it to each other. Some choice samples:
Unos Cuantos Piquetitos / A Few Small Nips (1935)
White, Middle-Aged Mother (hurriedly shuffling small daughter past): “She’s got some boo-boos.”
El Suicidio de Dorothy Hale / The Suicide of Dorothy Hale (1938)
White, 30-something Woman:
“She’s weird… but she’s not weird enough to be a surrealist.”
White, 30-something Man:
“Yeah. You can see where her work is still grounded in reality.”
El Circulo / The Circle (1951)
Short, Hispanic Grandma:
“I just don’t get it. *huff*” (throws arms up in air)
